JAGS Publishes Systematic Review
Dr. Varnes and colleague conducted a systematic review of research published regarding concordance between POLST use and treatment received.

Their article entitled The influence of POLST on treatment intensity at the end of life: A systematic review was published online in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. The authors found moderate strength of evidence that treatment limitation on POLST may reduce treatment intensity in POLST appropriate patients.
Social Determinants of Health
Associated with POLST Completion
Dr. Gievers and colleagues utilized Oregon POLST Registry data and American Community Survey data from 2013 to 2017 in an article entitled Social Determinants of Health May Predict End of Life Portable Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment Selections in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Data were merged by ZIP codes and analyzed 127,588 POLST forms from 319 zip codes. The authors found an association between POLST form completion rates and order selections and urbanization, insurance status, income level and educational attainment.
