Technology speeds access to patients' end-of-life wishes
"Oregon is the first state with one-click access to POLST registry forms," said Susan Tolle, M.D., during her interview with Kaiser Health News. At OHSU, Alyce Cheatham's POLST form was easily found in her medical records because of recent innovations. In 2015, OHSU's Epic team worked with Vynca to launch an electronic POLST form system that interfaces with Epic. The goal
was to allow health care professionals to electronically complete POLST forms, and easily find forms if a patient has one, in the header of the patient’s record. The Oregon POLST Registry's newest feature allows POLST forms to be fed from the Registry to the OHSU patient header regardless of where they were created. The Registry has the ability to collaborate with other Oregon health systems in implementing the bidirectional feature.
