Recent Publications
Advance Care Planning: Selected States' Efforts to Educate and Address Access Challenges was published on February 21, 2019 by the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO). The GAO report included Oregon as one of the four featured states with innovations showcasing the Oregon POLST Program and Oregon POLST Registry. Visit to read the report.

"POLST Registration and Associated Outcomes Among Veterans With Advanced-Stage Lung Cancer" was recently published in AJHPM. The study looked at the association between registered POLST and the quality of end of life care. Within the VA, researchers found POLST submissions to the Oregon POLST Registry were low for those dying of lung cancer (22%). 2019 DHS Provider Alerts
The Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) recently distributed alerts to Adult Foster Home Providers, Community Based Care: Assisted Living, Residential Care, Memory Care Facilities, and Nursing Facility Providers. The alerts provide updates on the Oregon POLST Program as well as clarify federal and state laws pertaining to POLST. The DHS alerts are available online in the Oregon POLST Professional Resource Library.
New EDIE Feature Sends POLST Notification
As of February 1, 2019, the Oregon POLST Registry has interfaced with Oregon Emergency Departments (EDs) using the Emergency Department Information Exchange (EDIE).

How does it work?  Hospitals who receive EDIE notifications via fax will also begin receiving POLST as a print out along with the EDIE notification.

Patient Stories Now Available Online
The Oregon POLST website now has a page dedicated to stories that we have collected from our community. Each story was selected to illustrate an underlining theme to help patients learn from someone else's experience. Oregon POLST Registry 2018 Annual Report
Under the leadership of Abby Dotson, Director of the Oregon POLST Registry, the Registry has published the 2018 Annual Report. The report confirms widespread use of POLST in Oregon and the vital role the Registry plays in assuring POLST forms can be found in a crisis.
